Climate change has emerged as the defining issue of our times, and has evolved into a global concern requiring concerted and coordinated remedial action from all sections of society. The City Climate Alliance is a non-registered, loose coalition of individuals and groups interested in and committed to the fight against climate change. The Alliance aims to articulate the numerous local efforts against climate change undertaken locally by building a common platform for discussion, learning and collective actions.
The City Climate Alliance was convened in January this year, and is comprised of students, young activists, NGO representatives, academics and professionals based in Hyderabad, all of whom are devoted to mitigating the climate crisis. Amongst members of the Alliance are prominent NGO leaders such as Ms. Farida Tampal, State Director, WWF-India, AP State Office, SAYEN, CEE and distinguished academics including Prof. Sayed E Hasnain, Vice Chancellor, University of Hyderabad.
The objectives of the climate alliance are:
1. To bring together a convergence in local initiatives and ideas on climate change mitigation strategies
2. To promote greater collaboration and partnership within members of the Alliance.
3. To provide a common platform for collective actions aimed at tackling climate change within members of the Alliance
4. To promote greater understanding and awareness of the climate crisis amongst students and peers.
5. To encourage greater association between and participation in activities undertaken collaboratively by members of the Alliance.

Through its various partners, the Alliance envisages becoming a forceful and influential voice for creating change, which will ultimately benefit the environment through positive and coordinated actions. The City Climate Alliance expects to have a direct impact on the lifestyles of the people of Hyderabad through generating awareness generation activities, and by sensitizing citizens on the detrimental and peculiar impacts posed by climate change to the city.
